Laser Cutting Water
Laser cutting water is commonly used for reducing the temperature of optics and electrodes in laser cutting equipment. It is inadvisable to use regular tap water as your laser cutting water, because tap water contains a lot of dissolved salts (such as calcium carbonate – timescale which is found in kettles) and deposits can leave an unsightly residue on the material being cut, which can potentially clog up equipment if used over a long period of time. Therefore, a higher purity product is required for this water application. As a result, many laser cutting equipment manufacturers instruct that high purity water should be the specified water for laser cutting. Along with reducing the temperature of optics and electrodes, some manufacturers also recommend a final rinse of equipment with deionized water to ensure maximum cleanliness in the laser cutting process.
